The beginning of an era

     The beginning of an era

In the first quarter of the book, we meet the main character Offred, who is the Handmaid for the Commander Waterford in Gilead. We got a glimpse of what happened to all the people that practiced work that are now forbidden. We learned about where they went before becoming a handmaid and what does it implied. We also learned about the Eye, which is an association that watches people to make sure that everybody behaves, they are in the streets and shops to look over everything. Also, at the end of the quarter we learned that baths were reserved for a special occasion, but we will learn more about it in the next section of the book.

  1. I think it is very interesting the way the autor imagined that life for the handmaid. Did you watch the serie? If yes, was it looking like the book?

    1. Yes, I did watch the show and it was remarkably similar to the first few episodes, after it is more romanced. The only big difference that I saw was Serena’s age, she is much older in the book, and the ending, which is kind of normal because there is no ending yet to the show.
